Before you send the device to us

Do not switch it on again. Every further attempt shrinks the area that can still be recovered.
If it is making a noise, do not connect it at all — clicking, whirring, ticking. That sound means the head is touching the disk.
If liquid has reached it, do not try to dry it, do not use a hairdryer, do not put it in rice. It is better for it to arrive wet than to arrive dry and corroded.
Do not run recovery software, do not format it, do not run chkdsk.
If you are sending it by courier, pack it against impact — foam or bubble wrap, held firmly inside the box. Damage in transit cannot be undone, so please pack it well.
